Here is my review on the brand new Astra Soft from Litepanels

I friggin loved this light!  I really do love playing with and shaping and having all sorts of fun with light so it was a real joy to play with.  It is very easy to use, the equivalent 2k tungsten soft light output or 575 HMI is amazing and really gives you lots of room.  It was flicker free, and color temperature selection makes matching colors a breeze and that all saves you time in post production.   As to saving time, the ability to put a gold mount or V mount battery on this think makes set up easier.  The bluetooth module, makes adjusting and set up fast and easy.  All of that saves you time on set, and time on post production, and that makes you more money, or gives you time for relaxing and who can complain about that?

Here is my break down of the whole thing.

Litepanels Astra 1×1 Soft Bi-Color:

• Ease of Use – Very easy
• Durability – Good Construction, felt well made
• Cost –  $1,800
• Practical – Extremely!

Bluetooth Module:

• Ease of Use – Easy (easier than setting up my blue tooth speaker)
• Durability – Good
• Cost –  $149
• Practical – Yes (makes an amazing product even better)

45 degree Honeycomb Grid:

• Ease of Use – Easy (just slide it in)
• Durability – Good
• Cost –  $195
• Practical – Yes (adds to the flexibility/versatility of this light)

For me, this light is worth it.  If your looking for a nice easy light to add some quality to your existing kit, you wont be disappointed.  If your looking for your first light, something versatile and something you can build a nice kit around, this is the light for you.  If you do lots of interviews, or talking heads this light is for you.  If you do anything that needs a light, this light won’t let you down.
